2011 Tour de France, Stage 4

Cadel Evans won the fourth stage in a photo finish ahead of Alberto Contador who thought he had won. The stage, 172.5 km from Lorient to Mur de Bretagne, delivered on its promise of an exciting finale due to its 2.2 km, 6.9%, finish. It didn't disappoint as Gilbert, hoping for a win on his 29th birthday, Contador and Evan attacked and counterattacked. He's back: Alexandre Vinokourov finished 3rd.

Thor Hushovd's, who only had a one second lead going into the stage, made an incredible effort to stay with the leaders and retained the yellow jersey.

Damiano Cunego crashed in the neutral zone after the start and bruised the left part of his body. The pain decreased during the stage but he didn't feel as competitive as the other top riders and finished 14th, -8 seconds to Evans.
